Comparison MyGuichet.lu and Peppol in Luxembourg

Two Channels, One Objective

Since March 2023, businesses that invoice the public sector in Luxembourg must use structured electronic invoicing. The government has authorised two official channels for this transmission: the MyGuichet.lu platform and the Peppol network.

But which one to choose? The answer depends on your business profile, your invoice volume and your digitalisation ambitions. This article helps you make an informed choice by objectively comparing the two options.

MyGuichet.lu: The Free Government Solution

MyGuichet.lu is the government's online administrative portal, developed and maintained by the Centre des Technologies de l'Information de l'État (CTIE). It offers a web interface for submitting electronic invoices to public entities.

Advantages of MyGuichet.lu

  • Free: no usage cost for submitting invoices
  • Official: government platform, guaranteeing compliance
  • Accessible: web interface requiring no additional software
  • Support in Luxembourgish, French, German and English
  • Secure authentication: connection via LuxTrust or eIDAS

Limitations of MyGuichet.lu

  • Manual entry: each invoice must be entered individually on the platform, which is time-consuming for large volumes
  • No automation: impossible to connect your accounting software or ERP directly to MyGuichet.lu for automatic sending
  • Limited to local B2G: MyGuichet.lu only allows invoicing local public entities, not private businesses or foreign administrations
  • No reception: MyGuichet.lu is designed for sending, not for receiving invoices from your suppliers
  • Browser dependency: requires an internet connection and LuxTrust certificate for each session

Peppol: The Automated International Network

Peppol is an international network for exchanging electronic commercial documents. In the Grand Duchy, it is recognised as an official channel for B2G invoicing and also offers possibilities for B2B.

Advantages of Peppol

  • Complete automation: possibility to connect your management tool for automatic sending and receiving via the Peppol Box API. Additionally, thanks to Flexina Sync, your accountant automatically retrieves your invoices from Peppol Box — free of charge and with no effort on your part
  • International reach: invoice public entities and private businesses in more than 30 countries connected to the network
  • B2G and B2B: a single channel for all your invoices, to public and private sectors
  • Reception included: receive invoices from your suppliers also connected to Peppol
  • Traceability: automatic reception confirmations and real-time tracking
  • Evolutive: suited for both small and large businesses
  • Future preparation: anticipation of a possible B2B obligation and compliance with European electronic invoicing requirements

Limitations of Peppol

  • Cost: using a Peppol solution involves a subscription or transaction fees (however the SME Packages Digital programme can cover up to 70% of costs)
  • Provider choice: need to select a compliant Peppol solution from the various available providers

Comparison Table

Here is a summary of the main differences between the two channels:

  • Cost: MyGuichet.lu is free; Peppol involves a subscription (subsidisable at 70%)
  • Automation: MyGuichet.lu requires manual entry; Peppol allows complete automation
  • Geographic reach: MyGuichet.lu is limited to the local public sector; Peppol covers more than 30 countries
  • B2G: both channels are suited
  • B2B: MyGuichet.lu is not suited; Peppol is perfectly suited
  • Invoice reception: not available on MyGuichet.lu; included with Peppol
  • ERP integration: not possible with MyGuichet.lu; possible with Peppol via API
  • Recommended volume: MyGuichet.lu for low volumes; Peppol for all volumes

Which Channel for Which Profile?

MyGuichet.lu is suited if:

  • You issue fewer than 10 invoices per month to the public sector
  • You have no clients or suppliers abroad
  • You do not need to automate your invoicing processes
  • You want a free solution with no commitment

Peppol is recommended if:

  • You issue a regular volume of invoices (more than 10 per month)
  • You have business partners in Belgium or other European countries
  • You want to automate invoice sending and receiving
  • You want to be ready for a future B2B obligation
  • You use accounting software or an ERP that you want to integrate

Our Recommendation

For the majority of local businesses, we recommend Peppol as the main channel. While MyGuichet.lu remains useful for certain occasional administrative procedures, Peppol offers a more complete and sustainable solution, particularly in a context where B2B electronic invoicing will be generalised in Europe.

With the European trend towards complete digitalisation of commercial exchanges, investing in Peppol today is a strategic choice for tomorrow.

Peppol Box is not just for transmitting electronic invoices: it is also a simple invoicing software that centralises the creation, sending, receiving and tracking of your documents.
